Operating Principle

  • Both the water and steam/air blowing elements are axially moved into the flue-gas path
  • Depending on the air preheater / gas-gas heater / SCR system design, the tubes are either fully or partly retractable
  • On reaching the prescribed travel, the direction of movement changes and the lance tubes return to their rest positions

Technical Summary

Clyde Bergemann’s Multi-Media Sootblowers are designed with dual lances for cleaning of heat exchangers, air preheaters and gas-gas heaters with steam, air or high-pressure water at flue-gas temperatures < 500°C (upper limit may vary based on application). Many boiler operators firing heavy fouling fuels have trouble keeping the heat exchanger surfaces from fouling or eventually blocking. These often cannot be removed with conventional sootblowers using steam or air as a cleaning medium. Clyde Bergemann Multi-Media Sootblowers are specially designed to help with this issue.

The PS-A Multi-Media Sootblower normally cleans with steam. Additionally, it allows the operator to perform a special cleaning cycle during which water (high or low pressure), through a dedicated lance tube, is utilised in controlled amounts to remove any deposit build-up. When using water, the PS-A Multi-Media Sootblower is designed to keep the thermal impact on the boiler tubes at a minimum by controlling the amount of water that is being applied to the heating surfaces. Also suited for hazardous conditions.
